The Summer Solstice a calendar day early this year at June 20 is the beginning of the Cardinal month of Cancer. Cancer a sensitive water sign that is like the crab with its hard outer shell but take away the shell and all is tender. Three Cancers who want a more peaceful world are Nelson Mandela, Dali Lama, and Jimmy Carter and with Germany's leader Andrea Merkel also a Cancer perhaps some softening of Germany's policies to war and aggression. George Bush is also a Cancer.

Cancer is called the Mother of the Zodiac with Capricorn being the Father. As the mother Cancer has all the traits of a protective mother including an inner strength and the ability of immediate action if their offspring is threatened. In many ways Cancer is very predictable with their desire to go with their feelings but the ability to move swiftly into action can be hard for many to keep up with. Again like the crab the Cancer will withdraw into their shell and put up protective claws to keep all away for the vulnerable inner emotions. But when the cancer has decided to move it is like the crabs on the beach running for the sea.

American Independence Day and the birthday of the USA. The USA is a battle ready country and this may seem to go against what has been said above about peace and no war with the Cancer. We have Cancer George Bush going to war to protect his brood the people of the USA and their safety. It seems that each time the USA goes to war it is to protect its own safety or someone else's. This the US people for the most part go along with. When Germany went to war 1910 and 1939 it was in both cases for aggressive reasons much more of an Aries action than one of protective Cancer.

Astrology is many things to many people. What is it to you? What is your special relationship with astrology? Do you just read sun sign columns or do you own a library of astrology books? Perhaps you just know the birth signs of a few friends and are interested in the similarity. Sun signs i.e. the place the sun was when a person was born is a simple and very accurate way of following astrology. When you meet people who interest you ask them their sun sign not to tell them all about themselves but to add them to your knowledge base for that sun sign. Often you will meet someone and say that person reminds me of my friend Harry and Harry is a Gemini so is this person might be a Gemini, often yes. When the person is not a Gemini it means that some other factor perhaps a Moon Sign is similar and that is what you are observing.

Question: Why should I pay any attention to astrology?

Answer: People is the answer. If you want to have a better understanding of people around you then knowing their sun sign and knowing something about sun signs is invaluable. The best book written on sun signs is Linda Goodman’s Sun Sign Book that should be available anywhere. There is also the predictive side of astrology that says that a certain planetary configuration is coming and that will have an effect on you and forewarned is forearmed. The simplest planetary configuration to follow is the full moon. Does it affect you? If yes then realize that in the 2-3 days before the full moon the emotional pressure is on for some people and just take a deep breath and be cool. Make you move after the full moon and it will be a lot more comfortable.

As Mars has moved into Virgo Israel and Iran are tightening the war talk trying to see who will be left hanging in the air. With Uranus and Neptune both retrograde and sitting on the cusp of a continuing exactitude the situation has the potential for explosiveness. Although Mars is assertive Virgo is not and it may be just a lot of talk going nowhere. Usually Saturn is a big player is Israel’s affairs and usually when it is retrograde the peace talks start all over again. But with Saturn direct this is not a good time to provoke Israel that has always played by its own rules.

At about midnight (Pacific Time) Thursday July 17 there will be a Full Moon in Capricorn. The Capricorn Moon and Cancer Sun Full Moon is a special one each year in that it is one of the two times during the year that we experience the highest and lowest tides. The other time is when the Moon is in Cancer and the sun is in Capricorn 6 months from now. Cancer is a sensitive and emotional water sign and the tides play a large role in the ebb and flow of the Cancer emotions. This full moon is also the first of the Summer Solstice a time of Cardinal action when many emotional issues are started and swept along the tidal river of Cancer.

Cancer and Capricorn are the most prolific at reproducing their own Zodiacal Sign. If the relationship is Cancer and Capricorn it can be said that at least by the third child there will be a Cancer or Capricorn. For the most part this holds true with Cancer and Cancer and Capricorn and Capricorn. It is very common to look back into the family tree of either a Cancer or Capricorn and find more Cancers and more Capricorns. Since Cancer is especially centered on the family and Capricorn is the second most family oriented sign again especially when coupled with Cancer the family strength is magnified and passed on to the new born.

In the US election race there is a lot of jockeying to see who is in the lead with both candidates changing positions with the ebb and flow popular opinion. The person who will find it easier to change is John McCain for three reasons (1) he is a Virgo a mutable and changeable sign (2) again because he is a Virgo a lot of his positions are not defined so changing them is quite easy (3) with McCain's Capricorn moon he will do what it takes to win. Barack Obama having a Leo Sun has many fixed positions that will be hard to change however he does have a Gemini Moon that in itself is very change able but changeable for the new idea so if Obama does change it should be to a new and fresh position if he is to win.

Staying with the US candidates the next big indicator of who the winner will be is coming up and that is who are the Vice Presidential choices. McCain at this moment is in the lead and will win period if it is just McCain and Obama. But the Vice President must be factored in. It is McCain's to loose and Barack's to win. This is a big money election where as of this date McCain has $100 million and Obama has $75 million to spend convincing people they are best. Who says with what will most likely be well in excess of $200 million being spent this is not a Capricorn election. Strangely enough with all the money being spent on the election and the preceding primaries these campaigns are a gigantic boost to the American economy as every dollar is being spent as fast as possible.

The month of the Lion is upon us, the Sun has entered the Zodiacal Sign of Leo, a fixed fire sign. With the Leo what you see is what you get and usually at a volume much louder than any others especially the male Leo who can be heard blocks away. Two Leo's that like to belt it out are Mike Jagger with the Rolling Stones and Steven Tyler with Arrowsmith. Two strong Leo orators are Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. In many previous blogs we have spoken about the political staying power of the Leo (try a search on our home page under Leo for much more). There are three fire signs Aries the raging forest fire, Leo the glowing coals, and Sagittarius the spontaneous flame.

The Democratic Convention 2008

The 2008 Democratic Convention a four day event that starts August 25, 2008 and ends August 28, 2008 will start with the Sun just into Virgo and the Moon starting August 25 will still be in Gemini. By the time the first evening rolls around the Moon will shift into Cancer and the thrust and direction of the party will be seen over the next two days including its entire emotionalism. Mars will be in Libra so there will be strong and forceful activity to find balance.

Barack Obama is to have his crowning on August 28 when the Moon has moved to Leo at INVESCO Field in front of 75,000 cheering fans. The king is crowned.

The 2008 Republican Convention a four day event that starts September 1, 2008 and ends September 4, 2008 will start with the Sun in Virgo approaching Saturn and with the Moon in Libra. As the third day closes and the fourth day begins the Sun and Saturn meet while the Moon is steady and strong in Scorpio. The Republicans are in control.
