Mayan Long Count Part One

Just for some background from the source article.

 

The ancient Mayan or pre-Maya chose December 21st, 2012 A.D., as the end of their Long Count.

 

"Scholars have known for decades that the 13-baktun cycle of the Mayan "Long Count" system of timekeeping was set to end precisely on a winter solstice, and that this system was put in place some 2300 years ago"

 

The early Maya adopted two different time keeping systems, the "Short Count" (104 years) and the Long Count or "Great Cycle" of (5125.36 years).

 

"The point of interest for these early astronomers seems to have been the projected end date in 2012 A.D., rather than the beginning date in 3114 B.C."

 

"The precession of the equinoxes, also known as the Platonic Year, is caused by the slow wobbling of the earth's polar axis. Right now this axis roughly points to Polaris, the "Pole Star," but this changes slowly over long periods of time. The earth's wobble causes the position of the seasonal quarters to slowly precess against the background of stars. For example, right now, the winter solstice position is in the constellation of Sagittarius. 1300 years ago, Polaris was much less an exact "Pole Star" than it is now. Schele demonstrates that it wasn't a Pole Star that the Maya mythologized in this regard, it was the unmarked polar "dark region"

I have calculated quite a few charts to see what different Astrological Systems such as Tropical, Sidereal, Draconic, and Krishnamurti have to say. I have applied Geocentric and Heliocentric to the forgoing Zodiac Systems.

 

For House Systems, Placidus, Equal, and "0" Aries. (We can also do this exercise for the May 2000 Stellium)

 

For the moment I have posted only two charts and the source article.

 

When viewing the displayed charts look to the top left corner outside the circle and you will see the makeup of the chart. As other charts are posted it is important to see the basis that the chart was calculated on besides just time, place, and date. In the chart above we have the Mayan Long Count Date of December 21, 2012 that Renee mentioned in the earlier post dated 5/7/99 Retrograde Neptune/Direct in Aquarius. The second chart as you will see from the source article is for August 11, 3114 BC.

 

Both the Dec 21, 2012 AD chart and the August 11, 3114 BC chart are calculated for Mexico City (for want of a better location)

 

They are both Geocentric Charts, using a Tropical Zodiac and Placidus House System. The Moons Mean Node and the Parallax Moon have been used.

 

I have confirmed with Astrolabe that their Solar Fire Ephemeris is accurate to 3114 BC, specifically Pluto. Since Pluto is a recent discovery some may say it was not there at that date back in time but as you will see in the source article that the polar point that the Mayans used was not a star but a dark empty area of the sky. Pluto is accurate to within 2 degrees from about 1200 BC backwards. The Link that I am using in all these charts is 00:00 Degrees and since Pluto is shown at 00Aquarius39 Retrograde it is possible that this slow moving Planet is at our 00:00 Degree mark. Mayan Long Count Part Two

 

In the lead post in this series I said that the degree placement for these dates of December 21, 2012 AD and August 11, 3114 BC that I would follow was a 00:00 Degree Exactitude.

 

The reasoning for this was quite simple in that on December 21, 2012 taken at 12:01PM using Mexico City and using a Geocentric oriented Chart, a Tropical Zodiac and a Placidus House System gave the Sun at 00Capricorn17, Earth 00Cancer17, Neptune 00Pisces49 and the Asteroid Juno teamed up with the Sun at 00Capricorn57.

 

In the earlier chart for August 11, 3114 BC, taken at 12:01PM using Mexico City and using a Geocentric oriented Chart, a Tropical Zodiac and a Placidus House System gave Pluto at 00Aquarius39 retrograde.

 

What these two charts seem to indicate is two outer planets on the transition Cusp between changing Zodiacal Signs. Pluto is entering Aquarius while Neptune is leaving Aquarius. The Mayans seem to be in sinc with some outer planetary patterns as we understand them. The outer planets for any early civilization 5,000 years ago should have been invisible unless they had exceptionally clear skies and a very in-depth or different viewpoint of the sky than we have today.

 

There is another Exactitude that we will watch in this exercise and that is 9th Degree.

 

In the earlier chart Jupiter 09Pisces18 retrograde and in the December 21 chart Jupiter 08Gemini52 retrograde, Pluto 08Capricorn57, Saturn 08Scorpio41.

 

For simplicity I will only deal with the December 21, 2012 AD date in this series of posts.

 

Since no time is given for December 21 it leaves all times open but in reality there can only be one or at lease a series of times.

 

Time in an Astrological Chart is crystallized at two points, the Ascendant (ASC or Rising Sign) and the MidHeaven/Medium Coeli or MH/MC. In other words the Eastern Horizon (ASC) and the highest point in the chart the MH/MC.

 

When looking for a House System to use many were available and in my original post I used the Placidus House System just because it is the one I commonly use but I could have just as easily used Koch or several others House systems that introduce characteristics such as Intercepted Signs. The House System that I chose was a form of the Equal House System called the "0 Aries House System". I chose this because it gave 00Aries00 on the ASC and 00Capricorn00 on the MC and actually 00Degrees on the rest of the House Cusps. This fits with the Degree I am looking for of 00Degrees00.

 

Using Equal House there is a way to make both the Equal House Chart and the 0 Aries Charts line up thus giving an 00Aries00 Ascendant and 00 Degree MC in both systems. This is to set the charts for the time when Aries is rising at 00Aries00 and that is how the following charts are set.

 

As I mentioned in the first post this fixing of time and use of different House Systems can be used on any given time but since the Mayans or at least John Major Jenkins has given us December 21, 2012 so this is the date of our exercise.

 

Now when we calculate the charts using the 0 Aries/Equal House Systems we have other choices and so lets look at the ones that will give different views of the charts.

 

Astrology has two Locational Systems in common use and they are Geocentric and Heliocentric so it seems for there to be an event of cosmic alignment cycles all systems must be playing a role.

 

Since we have settled on the House Systems of 0 Aries/Equal House and will use Geocentric and Heliocentric we now have several Zodiacs to use. These are Tropical, Sidereal, Krishnamurti, Draconic, there are others and 00Aries00'00". You can start to see where many Systems, Houses or Zodiacs that all use 00Aries00 are very convenient for our 00Degree00 exercise. I do not purport to be an expert in all these differing Systems but will present them in the best light for the December 21, 2012 date of linking Mayan calculations and how we view the changing cosmos today.

 

You will note that some of the charts are showing different times of the day. This is the Quantum Interaction of sequential events. The times are keyed to Geocentric rather than Heliocentric but the corresponding Heliocentric chart is shown with as this all unfolds some interesting results.

 

 

I will post the charts in series of two to try and not make this many more complex than blending systems already is. Our first two charts are:

Chart (3) gives us All House Cusps at 00Degrees00, Ascendant 00Aries00, the MC has moved off the 10th House Cusp, neither the Sun nor Neptune are part of our 00 Degree Exactitude but a very interesting new player has emerged North Node 00Scorpio11 retrograde and South Node 00Taurus11 retrograde.

 

The 9th Degree Exactitude is not represented but the 6th Degree is Sun 06Sagittarius25, Earth 06Gemini25, Neptune 06Aquarius53.

 

Chart (4) gives us All House Cusps at 00Degrees00, no other 00 Degree, the 9th Degree holds Neptune 08Aquarius31 while the Earth matches the above chart (3) Earth 06Gemini25. An interesting Exactitude of Saturn 10Libra13, and Venus 10Libra49 has appeared.

Chart (9) gives us All House Cusps at 00Degrees00, MC Juno and Neptune are also in our 00Degree, MC 29Sagittarius33, Juno 29Sagittarius23, Neptune 29Aquarius14. No sign of anything at the 9th or 6th Degree  but Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto make a statement at the 7th Degree, Jupiter 07Gemini17 retrograde, Saturn 07Scorpio06, Pluto 07Capricorn23.

 

Chart (10) gives us All House Cusps at 00Degrees00, and Neptune 00Pisces53, Mercury just hits the 9th Degree while Uranus has a solid grip on the 6th Degree Uranus 05Aries52 and even in this sparce chart Pluto takes the 7th Degree at 07Capricorn38.

 

Well this was to be the end of calculating charts but I thought I saw a missing player the Moon come into focus with a small adjustment namely setting the MC to 00 Degrees for the above sequence see Part Seven.

Chart (11) gives us All House Cusps at 00Degrees00, MC Juno, Neptune but now the Sun steps up to the plate as does the Moon. MC 00Capricorn00, Sun 29Sagittarius45, Juno 29Sagittarius45, Earth 29Gemini45, Neptune 29Aquarius16, Moon 29Aries07.

 

Our 9th degree is not with us but Venus 06Sagittarius39 and the strong grouping at the 7th Degree Saturn 07Scorpio12, Pluto 07Capricorn25 9interesting mutual exchange between these two, Jupiter hitting the midpoint at 07Gemini10 retrograde.

 

Chart (12) our last chart is quite simple, All House Cusps at 00Degrees00, Earth 29Gemini45 Neptune 00Pisces53.

 

Uranus 05Aries52 and Pluto 07Capricorn39.

 

In conclusion it seems two things are happing;

 

(1) at the beginning of the Long Count Pluto is changing Zodiacal Signs and entering Aquarius

 

(2) at the end of the Long Count Neptune is changing Zodiacal Signs and entering Pisces

 

I hope that this series of posts have shown how many different systems viewing the same time and place are really in agreement. They are the parts of the Holographic Whole interlocking and interacting as the web of time ripples with cosmic energy.

One of the best ways to lean astrology is by people association via Sun signs. When you meet someone ask them what their birth date is. Example October 1 they are a Libra Sun sign. Rather than telling that person what you think a Libra is store what they are like in you memory box called Libra. What they are is real Libra not just a Libra according to the books. Next time you ask someone and they too are a Libra compare the new Libra with the ones in your memory box.

After you have been asking people their birth date for a while and accumulating Sun sign memories you will start to get confused because sometimes you cannot see the similarity between two people of the same sign. There are several answers here in that there are usually several distinct types of each zodiacal sign. Firstly there is male and female and they usually are quite different in how they manifest their Sun sign energies. But let’s just stay with one sex first. In astrology it is always best to clear excess knowledge so that you can see what really is happening. In each zodiacal sign there are usually 30 days that correspond to 30 degrees of the Zodiac while all being the same Zodiacal sign. Each day or degree is different. Each day or degree compounds on the degree that comes before it. What I mean here is that each degree is the accumulation of experience of all the preceding degrees. Each zodiacal sign has its own way to experience and express that experience. So it is only reasonable to expect a Gemini near the front of the Sun sign to be different that a Gemini near the end of a Sun sign.

Often when looking at two people of the same sun sign and you see no similarity it is due to other than Sun sign factors in their chart, i.e. a strong Moon placement or a strong other planet that is pushing itself to the forefront and dominating the Sun sign. The Sun sign is usually the most dominant feature and thus the easiest to associate with. If you see someone who looks just like another person that you have met before and the first person was Sagittarius Sun sign and you boldly state that the new person is a Sagittarius only to find they are a Scorpio Sun sign. What has happened is quite likely the Sagittarius person had a strong Scorpio influence or the new person has a strong Sagittarius infulence. With experience you will see the true Sun signs. When you meet someone new in your mind try and determine their Sun sign, work through the possibilities. Then ask if you are right and if you are then truly understand why you are right do not let your ego run away with your great skills at Sun sign determination. Your learning process of Sun signs is not limited to just people you meet. With the internet some simple searches with get you a fast answer of almost any one’s Sun sign. Example search Brad Pitt horoscope or Brad Pitt birthday or Brad Pitt biography. I always do the horoscope search first as often an astrologer already has done the chart and now you get to see more than just the Sun sign. It is usually very easy to get a birth date for almost anyone in any walk of life.

In astrology there is way of dividing Sun signs into three categories called decans. A decan is a division of 10. So in a 30 day month or a 30 degree sun sign we have three divisions of 10. Each of the three decans produces a variation of the Sun sign. The formula for decans works like this. Remember that a sun sign does not start at the 1^st of the month but usually around the 21^st to 23^rd of the month. The first 10 days or 10 degrees of a Sun sign has the same tone as the sign itself. So a Gemini born within the first 10 days of Gemini is the most Gemini of Gemini. The second 10 days or 10 degrees of a Sun sign has the same tone as the following sign of the same Element. Gemini is an Air Element and the next Air sign is Libra. So the second 10 days or 10 degrees of a Gemini Sun sign is the most Libra like. The third 10 days or 10 degrees of a Sun sign has the same tone as the last following sign of the same Element. So a Gemini born in the last 10 days or 10 degrees of a Gemini Sun sign is the most Aquarian like. For the Element water it would work like this for a Pisces Sun, Ist decan Pisces, 2nd decan Cancer 3rd decan Scorpio. A Fire Element Aries would be 1^st decan Aries, 2^nd decan Leo, 3^rd decan Sagittarius. Earth Element for Virgo,1^st decan is Virgo, 2nd decan is Capricorn, 3^rd decan is Taurus.

The other day I was talking with an acquaintance who although interested in astrology would prefer to say he is not. He said that he just could not see how you could take all the people in the world and lump them in 12 boxes. I said it was quite easy and we left the conversation there. He is a Gemini who has been happily married to an Aries for a long time. I have always said that Aries and Gemini are a natural. The two signs just spark off each other. In fact it may be the best possible combination for both signs. I know of many happy Aries Gemini combinations. In fact the Gemini I was talking to has a wonderful working relationship with an Aries. Later I was watching a TV special on Elton John’s birthday. I had known for a long time that Elton was an Aries but I had never looked at Bernie Taupin his lifelong songwriter friend. Bernie Taupin May 22 a Gemini.

When looking at an astrological chart there are many things to look at. The Sun, the Moon, the planets the angular interaction the Rising Sign the house angles. The most import place to start is with the chart data box where it shows the date time and place the chart was calculated for. If the time is not known or unsure this is where it should say so. The reason the time is so important is that some of the information in the chart may be useless if the time is wrong namely the Moon position, the Rising Sign and the house positions. A chart can be constructed without the correct time but you then have to be clear on what information may be wrong or have to be taken loosely. Many astrologers when they have no time use sunrise as many are said to be born in the sunrise hours. They will also use an equal house chart. So if the chart you are looking at has 00Aries00 rising there is a good chance that the time is unknown. Although some astrologers use an equal house chart (a chart where all house degrees are the same) it is a good clue that the time is unknown. If I do not have a time I use 12:01 PM. This way my error is no more than 12 house either way and the 12:01PM is clearly just after noon.

If a chart has been constructed with the time unknown and using 12:01 PM the first thing that must not be relied upon is the Rising Sign and House cusps. The Rising Sign and house cusps change a zodiacal sign every two hours. The Moon is the next place to be cautious but perhaps a Moon sign can still be ascertained and at minimum a choice of one or two zodiacal signs. The Moon moves approximately 1 degree every two hours so unless the moon sign in the 12:01 pm chart is within 6 degrees of a cusp (the end or beginning area of a zodiacal sign) then you have at least a Moon Sign but if it is within 6 degrees of a cusp the Moon sign can be the sign on either side of the cusp. The most important thing in looking when looking at a chart is to know when it was constructed for. The worst thing in reading an astrology chart is to be reading wrong information and thinking it is correct.

So assuming we have a chart that has no known birth time. What is useful? Regardless of the time the Sun, Mercury, Venus and Mars will be accurate within one degree so unless they are on a cusp you will know their Zodiacal positions. The Sun position is the one you want first. From the Sun you can see if the chart has groupings or if the planets are spread almost evenly throughout the chart. If they are in groups and those groups are within one astrological sign then there is strength in those areas. If in trying to guess someone’s Sun sign you guessed Cancer but the person has a Gemini Sun but has 5 planets in Cancer your guess was right in that you saw or felt Cancer in the person. The planetary grouping in Cancer overshadowed the Sun position in Gemini.

Question: Can ALL the planets can be retrograde at the exact same

time? Is this something that is possible?

 

Answer: A good question. I think the answer is no. I have never seen it. All the planets can be direct at one time but usually for only brief periods of time. It is possible that a configuration with all planets out to Pluto could be retrograde but the trick would be Mercury and Mars. Mercury is only retrograde for three weeks at a time while Mars is only retrograde 10 weeks every two years. So if we can get those two on side then asking for Venus, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto to also be retrograde would be quite a coincidence. I suppose that somewhere such a configuration is possible. It would be easier if we went back in time when less planets were used and find a place there and then see if the newer planets figure in. Since the Moons Nodes also have apparent motion patterns an all retrograde pattern gets more complicated. And since we now use asteroids that also have apparent motion patterns the mix is more complex. Since the orbit of earth and the planets are quite stable it would seem that the status quo will hold but the planetary configurations are always changing and perhaps somewhere an all retrograde sky exists. Since at the beginning of a retrograde cycle a planet “falls” toward earth then it would be a high pressure point. There is another way to look at apparent motion and that is it is not a planet going backward but a planet falling away from the Zodiacal path and by the time it has regained the Zodiacal path it has lost Zodiacal position.

 

When looking at couples there are the more accepted pairings. Aries and Gemini are one. Cancer and Pisces are another. But what if you come across an Aries and Cancer who have been together a long time and appear to be very happy and compatible. The usual answer is in the Sun Moon configurations. Let’s take our Aries Cancer pairing and let’s give the Aries a Pisces Moon and let’s give the Cancer a Gemini Moon. Now we have a simple explanation as to how two Zodiacal signs that at first look do not seen the best fit but by just going one layer deeper to the Moon Sign a lot more can be seen. The Aries Sun links with the Gemini Moon while the Cancer Sun links with the Pisces Moon. This criss-crossing Sun Moon effect can happen with many different configurations.
